I don't monetize, so no idea :(

Anyway, to really earn from monetizing needs a very high traffic. At least 2-3K per day (that's a minimum)

depends totally on your traffic, trust me its not easy to get even 500 unique visitors per day, with the kind of saturation in every field these days. Nothing is better than AdSense. Get real advertisers for your blog if not an adnetwork. BidVertiser, AdBrite and if you have really heavy traffic then try CPM Ads like Smowtion, TLV Media and the list goes on.

If you are concentrating on a certain product or topic and are good at selling or marketing, try ClickBank or any affiliate marketing there is a lot of $$ in there.

With a website with substantial amount of traffic you could earn from $100 - $500/day, Iam not kidding lol this may sound ridiculous, its obvious.

This cannot be achieved overnight at all!

either blend the adsense ads to the color scheme or make them look the exact opposite color scheme. see which one works. if other adnetwork use box ads/leaderboard ads/skyscraper ad format. for a CPM network u need lots n lots of traffic (near 50k perday) to earn anything substantial. for a CPC network u need atleast minimum of 2k-5k traffic - US/UK/CAN/EU/AU - for both kind of networks.

Another way is Refferals/affiliates. Basically you put an ad of a company that you sign up with and if someone clicks on teh ad and Buys that product serive ,you get a commision.

Remember this is not a very consistent source as clicks dont matter, only sales do.Plus the ads are static and not contextual. So the trick is to advertise for something that your blog readers might Buy online. Its tricky in India currently.

But the payouts are pretty good, since i started my site made only 2 sales but earned 200$ in comminsions from these 2 sales alone.

So if you are a small blog but you can guage the thing your blog readers might like,it is best to gow ith this optionrather than adsense etc .Adsense will take ages to reach a minimum threshold of payment($100 in India)

Thats my opinion

BTW even amazon has this, you can advertise a centain product from their store.I Advertise a book from their store on my tech website (not sold any yet),but yes its an option

How much money can one expect by putting up an ad in the sidebar? How much should one quote? Whats the ideal amount for a month?
Chaitanya Kulkarni
from Mumbai

ideal amount for what? quote what? if u have for example 50,000 unique visitors per day the quote for an ad can be as much as it can be, again another example : Right Side Bar Wide Skyscraper, 1 slot of 160 x 600 $40 per week.

and if its affiliate it totally depends on sales, impressions or clicks wont count.

I would suggest that, I have read somewhere that one of the well known professional blogger use this formula to calculate ad price.

formula is your daily visitors(not unique)/10=1 ad price for one month.

means if you have 200 daily visitors you can place ad for 20$.

not use yet but can be useful.Cool

20$ daily or monthly?

yes monthly for just one ad unit in sidebar you can add as much you want .

That daily visitors is page views?
Pratik Thorat

yes page views and not unique visitors

I use the socialspark for monetization. They are into sponsored-posts!! I could make a few but real bucks there!!

I tried ADSENSE and a few other programs on my blog Another Author I don't get awesome traffic but a decent 200+ unique visitors (so says google analytics). So going for CPM ads / CPC ads didn't look good either!! No clicks / Very less clicks.  So it is better to go for sponsored posts I guess!!!

Chaitanya Kulkarni

200+ is less for adsense also, and if these 200 are from Tier 2-3 countries then well forget the cost per click lol, u need visitors from US UK CAN AU EU to get atleast $1 per click, least.

Can you tell me how to configure google analystics wih my blog...i tried to follow as social spark suggested...there seems to be an error.

these ads are pay per click and saves your website space also we all see that ad when we close that open browser.

and the conversions are counted when some one clicks on it.

that strategy is seems good for some business.

If there is a worth content on website, people will neglect that ads, and also if your traffic is mostly from google then you can go for this option but I will suggest don't try it on blogs as we aim for readership through blogs and that could be affected if your readers get frustrated by this ads.

And if you are willing try this ads here is some advertising agencies which allow popup ads,

Adversal - popular

tribalfusion - popular

fastclick

Casale

paypopup

clicksor

and there are many just google it out.

Kindly sign-up for analytics account *free of cost* with your gmail id .. for your account if you haven't already ..

then getting analytics approved would be easy .. I forgot the process long back ..

They would ask for your analytics id if I am not much wrong .. That must be simple .. I didn't face any hurdles back then .. I assume they didn't change the process!!

To monetize any blog via any medium the input is traffic the more traffic you have the more output would be there in terms of money but initially if you think to blog for money I dont think so there would be much output

Options are

Adsense

Affiliate Earning

CPA

etc etc

But again you need to have loads of traffic for any medium.First conc. on traffic then on monetizing. The traffic you have right now( as per your Alexa Rank ) is not enough for any type of monetizing besides if you will keep more ads many visitors would hesitate in becoming subscribers as they would see ads

Just keep on blogging to increase your subscribers and traffic noone knows if someday any producer/director will contact you to review their movie before release and it would be a paid review.Best of luck

LOL Mansi, I happened to see this as a thread you started when I was replying to your IndiMail.

You neednt have gone anywhere, when you have me, to monetize your blog. Besides I have helped you with a few things in the past. I would have told you how to monetize your blog in IndiMail but replying to Forum Posts will help a larger audience, apart from the hidden advantages like traffic to my neglected Personal Blog

There are bizillion ways to make money and there is a billion ways to make money online and a million ways to make money out of a website. But because there are a million ways, understanding it might be hard for some.

Traffic is not the main thing you need to make money online (and I have explained why a little later) but as so many have pointed out in the previous threads, to make money you need traffic. A LOT OF TRAFFIC to be exact. A thousand unique visitors per day is what one could call decent traffic. Not good. But decent. And if you use Blogger for your hosting and if you use the stat page to analyse the traffic you cannot be more misled. If you see the number 1000 there, it doesnt mean you got 1000 visitors to your site. The number you see there is the number of Impressions you got for your site and not visitors. Impressions is more like page views but if you have a image in your blog and if someone views that image through google images, that is one impression. Note that they did not read the content at all from your blog. So that is not any real traffic. To understand your traffic you have to sign up for Google Analytics. I hope you would have done that by now.

Now that you have understood what traffic is, you should try to get as much as possible. The minimum you should be getting is 1000 Unique visitors per day. This is like the pass mark for your website. But most of this traffic must be from countries like USA and UK or Germany and not India for you to make money out of the number. You can check all that from Google Analytics. Of course this is assuming that you use PPC (Pay Per Click) networks like Google Adsense. You will be able to make a fair amount of money if you have that many visitors. But, if you use PPM (Pay Per Mile) you will be lucky if you make a few paisa with low traffic. If you are making money as an affiliate you can have 50 unique visitors per day and you can make as much as 1000$ for that money. Uh yeah it is bit of an exaggeration but the point is that affiliate income from your site doesn’t depend on the quantity of your traffic as much as it depends on the quality of your traffic. But let me explain a few things before I get into explaining PPC, PPM and Affliate marketing.

Like I said before, traffic is not what will help you make money. The basic rule of thumb to making money anywhere is to create value. The more value you create, the more money you will get. Facebook makes 3.7 Billion dollars as revenue per year. That is because it get A LOT of traffic. But xvideos, an adult site, gets 10 times more traffic than facebook does. There are more horny men in this world than there are chicks who obsessively change their status and profile pictures. But since xvideos get ten times the traffic, it should make ten time the money as facebook does rite? I will be surprised if xvideos make quarter the amount of money from their traffic. The thing is when a website creates value, you will get traffic and you will make money from the traffic. More value, More Money. If your site creates no value, you wont make money even if you get a load of traffic. For example a porn site like xvideos.com is visited by horny men who view porn. Sites make money out of advertisement and horny men who visit porn sites do not click on the advertisement and even if they click on the advertisement they don’t buy anything. They just watch porn and after obtaining the desired effect they leave. Suppose you are selling something and if you advertise your product in a porn site, you wont have any use at all. You will just be wasting your money. Advertisers are not stupid. Actually only smart people advertise. If they spend 100$ for the advertisement, they make at least 500$ from the sales revenues because of the advertisement they invested on. So if you are hoping to make money out of yours site ask yourself the question, will your site generate sales to the people who advertise in your site? If the answer is no, it will be bad karma if you manage to make any money at all from your site because you are technically cheating the advertiser without giving him any benefit in return. Uh just in case you don’t believe in Karma and you start looking for ways to cheat people, let me tell you, you cant. The reason why you fail to make money from your site is because advertisers get no benefit from advertising in your site.

So when you want to monetize your site, don’t ask the question if your site has the traffic. Ask the question if your site has created enough value to make money from it?

Assuming your site has value, I will tell you how to get the traffic. There are primarily three sure fire ways to get traffic. The first is SEO or (Search Engine Optimization). It is optimizing your site for search engines like google and bing so that your site shows up when someone looks up something in google. Say you write an article related to socks, and if someone looks up socks in google, your site will show up as a search result and they will click that and that is equal to traffic. This is the number one way of getting traffic. I can write a whole book on SEO. If you need a mentor on SEO or anything at all, I can teach you for free if you contact me (I expect you to put a link back to one of my sites in return for my efforts). The second method of getting traffic is Article Directories. The third method is Social Media like facebook, twitter, stumble upon, Redit, Diggit and delecious. Most people focus on one method but a true master (like myself :P) will focus on everything and get the maximum benefit.

Now assuming you got the traffic and quality content in your website, it is time to make money. PPC, PPM and Affliate are some of the ways to make money. In PPC you make money if someone clicks your ads (google adsense) and in PPM you make money for every 1000 visitors who view the ad that you put in your site. But the money you make is insanely low. You will make .01 $ for every thousand visitors. That is like 1$ for 100,000 visitors. If you are getting that much of traffic cool. If you aren’t, then you must stick with PPC, google adsense to be specific. Affliate is the next thing. Suppose I have a product and if you help me sell it, I will give a percent of money I make selling it through you. This pays a lot but like someone said before, it is not steady. You can make a 100$ from just one sale but you have to make a sale. Unlike PPC where you can expect a standard amount of money each month you cannot expect the same thing here. So the content of your site should be compelling enough to make people buy something. Again the smartest way to advertise and the smartest way to make money if you want monetize your site.

I have kept things brief here but you can always contact me for help with anything from design to monetization to SEO to anything else there is to making money online. I will mentor you for free but I will expect you to thank me by putting a link back to one of my sites in the sites that I help you build. The least you could do to all the free service I give you. :P Please also visit my personal blog www.diaryofthenarcissist.com and be ever so kind to follow it.

The following tips are specific for you Mansi:

  1. Buy your own domain.
  2. The content you want to monetize is rather difficult to make money from. Ask yourself the question, who will want to put advertisement in your site and what benefit will those advertisers get? If you can answer that question then target those people and get advertisement from them. My blog diaryofthenarcissist.com has no commercial value and hence I don’t put ads in my site, in spite of having good traffic and good readership.
  3. Further more you are hosted in a free hosting service like blogger so the content you write is not really yours. Google owns it. Sites which can make money are self hosted. Some advertisement networks like adBrite have a policy against accepting sites which are hosted in blogger. This also applies to owning your own domain. Domain costs only 10$ per year.
  4. High load time means bad SEO. Your site wont show up in google search result. I have already told you that in the past.

If you are passionate about all this, you will make a lot of money. But there is no one manual you can just read and get it over with.

Hail Narcissism.

i thought the same..... thing is, i'm not sure which of my blogs will make any money at all. http://mychocolethandbag.wordpress.com or http://kofykat.wordpress.com.... one is a fashion blog and the other is a misc blog. i tried to add flipkart but the code isn;t working..... and amazon isn't very promising either. i'm totally lost.

You should begin by moving your content to your own domain before trying to monetize the content. The misc blog will have less monetizing ability than the fashion blog. You can generate a lot of money from the fashion blog if you generate a lot of traffic and put adsense code in it.

But you cant use adsense on wordpress.com even if you use your own domain , either switch to blogger or self hosted wordpress

LOL yeah. It will be complete idiocy to use wordpress.com. Blogger is so much better than wordpress.com. But when people talk about wordpress they usually talk about wordpress.org not wordpress.com. Anything that provides free hosting will have numorous limitations.

BTW wordpress.org is the best thing you can ever use. Meaning dont even compare it to wordpress.com or blogger in any respect.

This comes from a guy who bought something with adsense revenue.

People who earn a lot from adsense do more than 1 thing (they also host youtube videos- like how I do now) and run more than 1 blog. That's how they earn on a regular basis. If you have a very high and healthy traffic, premium ads are way to go. When I say high traffic, its about 10-25k unique hits per day in approx.

Other than that, if you are writing reviews about products that are listed online, you can always put up a link with referral ID on it like how they have on amazon and flipkart. You earn that way. Again- traffic. The least you should put up ads on your blogs if it covers up expenses for your domain+ decent enough hosting- or else you seriously need to re-think what you want to do.
