Its absolutely fine to opt for blogger over WP. As per our expericne, a blogspot blog is better indexed than its counter WP blog for a post, other parameters remiaining standard. As per my own expericne, I find Blogspot easy to operate and manage :)
A few seetings that would help your blog's SEO would be :
Adding the tags widget, preferably at the bottom of the maint page.
Adding analytics to your blog - by installing a simple google code you can get detailed analytis of your blog. Stats are also available w/o it and can be accessed through Dashboard.

@ nextgen - we do not specialize in this category. However, I can give you some basic tips. Your website looks neat and mostly includes simple text and html format. The some simple the layout, the better will be the upload time. So, you are already doing great. The only thing that could be causing delay in page loading could be the additional plugins that you have installed in it. So, you might like to have a look at them; try to alter them, remove them for a while and see if it improves the time, if it does, then try to find a better alternative for them; you have to basically experiment with them a bit. 1.4 seconds is not that bad of a loading time anyways, but you can improve it with a lil variation of plugin, we suppose. My Google adsense account has always been disapproved.. is it because of the obvious reason or is there some other?

@ Raj - Google should have stated the reason for disapproval. Pls read it. In case you do not have a TLD domain like a .com or .net and host your blog on free services like Blogger and WP with their subdomain (abc.blogpsot.com) , Google will most probably reject your application until your blog is exceptionally qualitative.
If your blog was rejected for any other reeason, let us know and we shall proceed accrdingly.
