What is your opinion about HUGE posts? Share your opinions!
Many of the blogs I have seen have short and crisp posts. Many a few have raised their voices against large blog posts.
Are huge blog posts really a turn off?
What makes Huge posts boring and is there a way out to escape the wrath shown by the readers on huge posts?
Please feel free to enlighten me!
Personally, am not a fan of huge posts. I tend to skip words while reading, if its a long post, more words to skip. Huge short stories are especially hard for me to read, its a bit difficult to go through the unnecessary details, and try to get the gist of the story.
But, to each his own!
Well! That's informative!
I am planning to write a short story (of considerable length!). Well, i now realised being concise is important!
Who want's an Ekta Kapoor type narration!
Thank you for your valuable comment!
Well at times some bloggers write so well, that i don't really mind reading there long posts :)
That's the true spirit of real blogger i feel!
..
Same with me I don't bother about the length as long as the post has some substance!
Thanks for your opinion!
edit: their instead of there
As a reader, huge posts are totally a turn off personally while reading 'em I tend to trail after a few para's.
I have never done uge posts so I dunno if there is any sure fire method of escaping the huge post syndrome, but you could try,
1. Try using pics - the number of images should be proportional (and relevant to) to the length of the post
2. Try dividing the lengthy post into two or more post, with a proper flow and continuity of course!
Well,
I can make the first few pars's interesting!
I use a lot of relevant pictures!
And the second thing is that previously I tried to divide a huge blog into pieces and it was a huge disaster!
People could not follow thw whole story properly and eventually I had to delete the blog altogether!
Thanks for sharing your valuable opinion!
from writere point of view huge posts show he is a good narrator and writer. from readers point of u...its bore..
True! But one can't satisfy everyone with his/her blog posts right!
Personally, I am deft in writing larger posts than shorter ones!
Well, I can't deny your point too!
Thanks for your vital reply!
Well, I am a huge poster. Hence I am bit biased. If one has a aim of writing serious fiction then probably he/she should start with huge posts!
Firstly,
Ravi I was Overwhelmed when I read your blog!
You have a way with your words and you have a HUGE fan in me!
And yea!
I am into serious fiction. I am planning to post one in a day or two!
But I just wanted to take everyone's opinion as I didn't want my post to set in the west as soon as it rises!
Thanks anyway for sparing your time foe me!
Cheers!!
Thanks pawan. Start with memoirs, they are easy to write. Then move on to short stories with 1-2 characters.
as Shakar said,
from writere point of view huge posts show he is a good narrator and writer. from readers point of u...its bore..
I agree with it, but if u are confident abt ur writing ability.. then just go ahead.. people will read and come again... u cant satisfy each n every reader.. just satisfy ur soul !!! like all my poems r not tht good but my soul is happy with it...
Happy Blogging...!!!

Thank you Khushi!,
True at the end of the day its my satisfaction it matter's!
I am confident of writing but I just wanted a peek at the reader's ideas too!
Btw thanks for mentioning poems!
I will definitely visit your blog as I am looking for some inspiration for writing some!
Cheers!
s..kushi we cant satisfy everyone... I like writing long and huge posts...
I am in d habbit of writing lengthy posts.. in my blog review many have called it a turn-off while othrs hav said tht for thm d length of my posts didnt matter as the cntnt was gr8.. As for myslf.. i hold the latter view. If u hav it in u 2 hold the readers intrst, thn length doesnt matter..
i'll reproduce here one of the comments on my blog.
"HI one of the commentors told that ur bolgs are lenghty,,,,,,,I agree to that....I wanted to add up........U r repeating or expanding the simple thing in a BIGGGGGGGGGG paragraph...but the topic drags the reader to complete ur blog."
This was one of the harshest cmmnt i evr hd.. bt i cudn' help bt tak it as a compliment as according 2 it, at least ppl r intrstd 2 cmplete reading d post nd not leave it midway:)
Hilarious!
True, I think the first few para's shud be interesting to make the reader complete the whole post (with equal importance given to other para's too!).
But it is tough to get an audience for huge posts as many of them tend to be impatient!
Thanks for writing up ur opinion!
Dear Pawan,
What can be said in a word can be said in a million.
The Bhagavat Gita contains 18 chapters and 700 shlokas. Of the 700 shlokas, 1 (first) shloka is of Dhritarashtra, 40 are of Sanjaya, 84 of Arjuna and 575 of Krishna. It was indeed a 'huge' post for Arjuna. But it had content and so helped. Every word had significance and so it empowered . But not all are inspired by the Gita. That does not decease its value. The reader is just asserting his freedom.
The biggest advantage with a 'huge' post is that it is most of the time studded with gems of thought. You must have heard of John Keats, the famous romantic poet. Not much is remembered of his poem 'Endymion' beyond the first sparkling sentence that says, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever".
Huge posts, like this reply, are well-intended. It is today's reader who has changed his reading format from a test match to a 20-20 game. That neccesitates that the writer change his product too, to match the demand of the reader. For after all, the reader is the writer's life and blood.
If we check how many times in an hour we change channels while wathing TV, we can understand how much our attention span has diminished.
Going back to the Gita, Swami Vivekananda was asked to sum it up - all 700 verses - in a word. He replied, "Fearlessness". That is the beauty of a short post.

Vinay,
I am nothing but stunned reading your above comment!
Your comment shows your intellectual superiority and able to relate things in a beautiful manner!
True, the current generatin has become restless, the beauty of the test matches have drowned in the unnecessary havoc of t20.
This is by far the best comment I have recieved and yes, both the long and short posts have equal importance!
I am speechlees, and I have nothing more to say!, I think the answer lies clearly in your comment!.
Cheers!
As we all know For a blog - Content is king.
Readers will stay in your blog reading your posts no matter what the length of the post is, provided they like the content.
If the post content is bad, readers won't bother closing the tab, even when it is micro-blogging.
True!
But I am talking about fiction here!
This is also an important point!
Thanks for sending in your valuable opinion!
All of us hav been talking from the point of view of the reader. What we missing is the point of view of the writer. A blog is also his/her creative outlet and huge posts happen. This is my case. I can't and try not to limit my expression just because my readers would want to read a smaller post.
blogging is all about ur personal space. use it as u wish unless u're blogging for publicity/review sake.
common psyche of readers is tht they want more masala in li'l text. Impatience is the new life, u see... So, if ur "readers" are plain "visitors" then its better to write short posts and expect comments. But, if ur readers are ur followers, the comments cud be as long as individual post, as in this case.
Happy blogging.
huge posts turn me off when there is no concept!.. but when the topic is good and intresting then its not a big deal.
True!
An aceeptable fact!
a very relevant questoin pawan.. i think on net thr is an information overload.. we hav too much to read.. its net and the attention span of the ppl is small... i dnt think an article no matter how interesting if its long loses its touch with the reader and reader drifts away... people should keep thr posts to the point and relevant!
hoe about writing a big post on the relevance of short posts?? lolzzz
Yea true!
But it is not always possible to keep the post crisp and short!
If one want's to write a story revolving around and event one should first describe everything around which in turn increases the size of the post!
And about your long post about shor posts..
No one would bother to read it!
Cheers!
As some of 'em have already said, if the content is meaty, i would not mind reading even 100 paragraphs.... its just like a book thing... you read thousands of paragraph coz you are interested in reading so.
This is an interesting point!
But there is one thing to remember!
A book has only content and there are lesser possibilities of a reader getting deviated!
But when it comes to reading a blog there are greater chances of getting lost in the enormous web spun by the net!
as i said, its about interest... if your article is enuf to hold your reader's interest, thats it. when you compare reading a book or a blog, i think deviation is happening in both the cases. while reading book, you get lost by even a small sound, isnt it? but we still continue reading, coz the story is important to you!
Same for a blog, if the content is capable enuf to hold off the whole attention of your reader, then that would not deter your reader from reading even if you have written the whole book.
Agreed!
Frankly you cannot expect to please everyone.
Your blog need to focus on a select readership.
So keep that reader in mind and write from your heart. If the audience you have in mind desires/deserves loooooooong posts go for it.
If the subject that you have in your mind needs paragraphs after paragraphs, go for it.
All types of blogs exists:
a) Short and snappy
b) Shory and boring
c) Long and enticing
d) long and boring
Just blog it!
My blog is as cool as a,c ;)
I like to be away from rambling posts. Being terse is what I prefer. Of course, due care must be taken to limit the length of the post to a limit - I usually write not more than a page or two! Maintaining the quality of your post is paramount - doesn't matter if you are not a frequent blogger. Make your own style and maintain consistency in what you do in your blog!
Good Readers love consitency more than the frequency of the posts.
