Any Wordpress.org users?

Most of the self hosted blogs now-a-days are being put up on the wordpress platform.

Manav has already pointed out in the other thread there are very few wordpress users in indiblogger.

Do reply here if you are using the .org sibling!

Would be great to know the others, and help out each other in case of any issues :)

I suggest you to track this topic too, so that if anyone among us has any problem(s) (in wordpress.org related stuff ofcourse!), others can help them out

http://www.krishnachaitanya.in/blog runs on wordpress.

I haven't tried to customize too much. Usually, all the cPanel's have one click wordpress installation. To me, the difficult task was in choosing a template for the blog.

How much are you trying to customize your blog and in what aspects?

You got a nice minimalistic theme KC.

I have put in page specific widgets, widgets in the posting areas of the pages, had included facebook user authentication...........customization was the easier part for me, I had trouble with just changing the domain which I bought from blogger.com to point to the godaddy hosting! I know! sounds very petty now! but it was the first step for me then! took me two whole days and some excellent customer service help from godaddy :)

I liked your previous theme more! somehow :)

Thanks Murali. The previous theme was definitely more colorful. But the new theme is more SEO oriented. I wanted the Thesis theme which is excellent for SEO but did not want to spend about $200 for a blog theme. So ended up with a thesis-like theme.

I am really looking to shift from .com to .org but have zilch Technical knowledge, no information on how to go about, lazy bum (that plays a big role u know!), no clue how much it will cost etc etc...

why don't you try out the guide that mohan did for migrating :D

well the costs associated with the domain aren't much, ranging from 88-500 per  year......hosting is a bit costlier......

Oh no.. i bought BlueHost for 3 years at $3.95 per month.. It is a good deal wrt the kind of service they provide. Well, I was lucky to have bought the hosting account when a promo was going on... Be watchful and buy when the promos are going on.

I will soon be your sibling guys! I am working on a blog that will be hosted on WordPress.org, hope to get it online in a few days! Laughing

One thing I wanted to ask is, can I have separate feeds for separate categories in the same blog? I have heard that there's a plugin for it in the wordpress plugins library. As I am not using wordpress.org, can you please find it for me, or do you already know about it.

Do help me, please!

try out http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widget-feeds/

I'm on Wordpress too: http://mithunonthe.net/ Smile

Still learning the ropes as I'm not a coder myself. The plugins are great but anyone know how to insert a module for the 'most popular posts' based on clicks?

Did you check this out?

it doesn't work on the number of clicks, but on the number of views.

I have a few blogs on wordpress including http://www.gitaaonline.com/ and http://www.mantraaonline.com/

Only today, I decided to move  buzzzstop.com a blog that I had on Blogger to its own domain and hosting on Bluehost with a wordpress installation. Like Mohan mentioned, I have been using Bluehost for a few months now and so far it has been stable.

The bluehost + blogger combination was not easy to configure and so I finally decided to install wordpress and host it in bluehost itself. Since this blog is still quite new, migrating the posts etc was quite a breeze.

I still have many questions including (a) What happens to the existing posts and listing in Indiblogger - can this just be changed by updating in the directory (b) What happens to the old posts and their links - Do I have to abandon those when I eventually close the blogspot account (c) how do we get back the followers of the blog

I guess you meant the indivine links to the posts by "old posts and their links". I have lost them in that they are still linked to my old address.

We can change the address of our blog in the directory.

Why do you want to close the blogspot account? I have just redirected my old blog url to my new address after putting up a change of address notice for 2 weeks. There might be many other innovative ways to hold on to all of your old followers, but I just used twitter and facebook and to bring this to the attention of as many as possible.

Even I would like to know, if there are any other ways. :)

I have managed to overcome most of the teething troubles I think and have successfully migrated the blog, address and all post into a new host and domain. I also managed to set it up to redirect my blog and also kept all followers.

The only thing I could not do was get the old Indivine posts to redirect to the new locations. This is really because in Blogger, the files end with a .html but in Wordpress the posts are stored differently. So for example, my old post would be at http://buzzzstop.blogspot.com/2010/06/arose-by-other-names.html but the new one is at the almost identical but slightly different location of http://www.buzzzstop.com/2010/06/arose-by-other-names/ and when this is re-directed, it changes over to the new domain correctly, but gives me a "Not Found" error. If there is a quick fix for this, it seems to be beyond my capability!

Maybe if Renie would allow us to edit the Indivine links after posting or some way for redirection of Indivine when the domain changes, it would be possible..Smile
