Please spare some time and give tips for frequent blogging
I have been working with two firms since last July and the frequency of my blogposts has really gone down. I have been unable to either write or post even if I wanted to. There's this problem of acute time-management. I guess, wonder and know... that many of you have either gone or are going through the same problem. For the ones who have overcome this problem, please give me some valuable tips on time-management. For the ones who are still battling with this kinda problem... please look into this space for suggestions.
Love and thanks,
Indie :)
PS. I so missed Indiblogger and my favourite bloggers' posts
The first and probably the most obvious benefit of infrequent blog posting is that you have more time to work on an individual article. Whether an article will be success or failure depends pretty much on how well the information has been presented.
-- You don't hav to write the entire post in one sitting. So split it into paras and write just one para per day. (I've made a pact with myself 'write one paragraph EVERY day').
--You don't hav to always post a Legthly article. Post an image, video, a quote or reblog something.
--Write without worrying about spellings, grammar, sentence constructions. Ramble First Edit Later.
--write with whatever is available - pen, pencil, computer, cell phone, chalk, coal anything.
@Pankaj~~ thanks dear for your "split the post" idea! Seems working and sounds practical! :)
Thanks for your wish.....:)
Good Day..:)
I write a humour blog. And I face the same problem. It is difficult to find topics and be humorous about it. So these are something I follow
a) Reduce the size of the posts (~400 words).
For a 400 word post on a topic, I need four or five funny observations about it which is manageable. Online readers are restless. So there is no point in writing 2000 word post anyway.
b)Work on five or six posts in background
As R-A-J said I keep making notes on my mobile (yes it is the same Micromax mobile I posted about in Dell contest)
c) Make a series of posts on a topic:
I post on Mahabharath. It helps as there is readymade material to make fun of.
d)Schedule the posts
I write couple of them in weekends and schedule it for later days.
@Rajamani~~ Your posts are amazing and you have a **strangulating** sense of humour!
As for your idea, I agree with you absolutely on reducing the word-count(now since my Cyber Journalism teacher keeps telling me, readers don't want to read much on the net)! Will try incorporating it very soon... :)
hmm and plagiarism does not really affect rankings "if you know how to use it well".
Chaitanya, I personally like the concept that Google prefers original content and rewards it while punishing copycats. It seems like a fair way for things to work. Finding a loophole in the system doesn't mean that it should be used. Of course, my opinions are limited to my blog and each blogger should be able to decide this on their own.
I think this is a good topic for debate because it comes within a gray area. Say both bloggers are OK with the duplication of content. It is not plagiarism if it is done with permission of the original blogger (or more specifically 'the copyright holder').
But should two or more blogs have the same content? If a post of mine applies to various categories, then should I post it on multiple blogs that focus on one specific category each.
Say I am writing about the topic 'Andhra Pradesh govt importing laptops for poor students and is using them for online exams' and I own multiple blogs or have friends who own them. then which type of blog to post it on?
1. politics blog
2. education blog
3. technology blog
4. News blog
5. Import-Export blog
6. or my personal blog?
For the purpose of debate, the written article can be assumed to be fit for all the above blogs. But just because I am OK with the various postings on different blogs, should it actually show up on different blogs. Something to think about (for me at least).
im saying even the plagiarised content can be unique, of course any blogger with unique content will hate it if someone copies his/her content and claim a copyright over the copycat, you will need a copyright or disclaimer for the same as well.
quit sleeping its a waste of time :P [joke]
how many hours do you have in a day including work hours? and how many to spare? wont take more than few minutes to write one article. and 3-4 articles a week are enough in my opinion.
30 mins a day on blogging is more than enough.
btw, if you search a lil on google you'll find huge databases of articles you can use for content [i dnt mean article directories]. unless u want 10000% unique content which only could write yourself.
seriously just 20-30 mins a day. what are your interests blog on those they serve the best in my experience, and don't get bored.
hmm and plagiarism does not really affect rankings "if you know how to use it well".
lmao one more, you could simply write 5-6 posts at once when your in a mood to write and simply schedule them.
@Chaitanya~~ Thanks dear for the idea... It seems I'm installing ideas and looking up to myself when to implement them **Sigh**
Amrita chatterjee, once you have the time and inclination you can pen a blog within 20 minutes, that is what is required, if you are loading photos and videos it might take a little more time. In case you have to do research it might require another 2 hours focussed. So it is your choice, no excuse on finding time. Lolz
Umeshji~~ I think I would practise more blogging for posting in 20 mins... and Yeah you're right, "No excuse on finding time!"
Pramod, You should not put anyone's existing post on your site as it would impact google rankings due to the obvious reason of plagiarism. It would also have a negative impact on Zephyrs blog since there would be an exchange of backlinks as well. Google Uncle will punish both blogs in the long run. And the more post copies you provide on your blog, the more damage will be done to it and to the people who provide original content.
GoogleBot Bhaiya cannot understand or accept why you have the same content in two different places. The difficult to impress Ms PageRank will be effected no matter how much you try to woo her.
Consider yourself warned. :o)
nice thread hijack, BTW.
@Rumbaho~~ Its okay! Really a sound piece of advice! :)
Hey I am new to this IndiBlooger, just became a member of IndiBlogger some days back. But from many years, trust me I mean it when I say from many years, that I wanted to become a member, but something was stopping me from doing so. So I thought, enough is enough. I just asked one question to myself, do I really like to Blog or pen my thoughts....immediate answer was YES.
I say, sometimes you just have to be ruthless with yourself just to ensure that you continue to do what you like doing. Most of the times we have everything but just need that bit of kick from within to get back on track. It happens with me that I see or hear some lines or sentence then so many thoughts creep into my mind, but because of my laziness I postpone and later I forget it. So, whenever something happens like this, I immediately take note of that line or sentence. Later on when I see that, all my thoughts come and my blog takes shape. Hope this was helpful to you. Good Day, Keep Blogging...
@Prashanth~~ Same kinda problem wimme too dear! Yeah, it's definitely helpful yaar and I wud try incorporating it!
All the luck to you for ur blog too! :)
Love,
Indie :)
@ Indiana You have 3 blogs? No wonder you don't have the time ;-) But seriously, you might want to consider concentrating on just one of your blogs for the time being, maybe pictoreal, and then posting regularly on it. And as you get back into the rhythm of blogging, you could start posting on your other blogs as well.
I post twice a week and it is not easy, as I take time to write out my posts. But my strategy is to alternate a long post with a short post. The latter type is usually one that I can conceptualise and write in a day or two.
@Sudha~~ Lovely idea... In fact, I was thinking on a similar platform!
Your manner of posting sounds practical 2 me! Thanks for such a wonderful advice!
actually we are not slaves to our blog, it is a passion and should be dealt as passion. whenever mood is good write ,otherwise read other good blogs and comment on them, this will increase infux of patrons to your blog and that will boost the morale to write more and more.
Agree totally with you Pramod. Sometimes i feel restless for not posting anything new when I don't have the time or am busy with other writing. and then i pull myself up because blogging should not become a chore but something one loves to indulge in.
@Subhashchy: Half an hour to write a post? You must be a genius. I take at least a day to write one post. Keep nagging myself to improve it and the time flies by.
@Pramodji~~~ Thank you soo much! Earlier I had this idea.. However, (frankly speaking) seeing the amount of interaction and competition, I changed my idea! Nowadays, I feel unsocialized if I dnt blog!
@Zephyr~~ Same here wimme dear...and about ur reply 2 Subhaschy, even I was wondering how can one write in 30 mins!
I can post my photos in 30 mins, but not stories!
@RAJ~~ Lol.. That was inspiring and interesting!
Will try doing it... Thanks..
@Subhaschy~~ Blogging is not boring at all... Just tat at the end of the day, when I return home, I feel lyk snoozing on my couch rather than posting. Btw, well said, I think I need more WILL POWER!
@Rumbaho ~~ Thanx for ur advice and you seem to have a stabbing humour
Well, I do not have a smart phone... and will definitely try scribbling on my phone weneva I get time...
yeah, sorry about hijacking your thread. heh
I didn't mean to stab, poke or prod in any way. That's what gets guys into trouble with the ladies. But the phone thing will work. one of three things will happen:
1. You will start using the phone to note points for your blog
2. You will write full posts on your phone (like I did couple of days ago)
3. You will hate writing on your phone and find yourself blogging on the nearest available computer.
Let's hope for the sake of your thumbs that it will be No.3.
:o)
U know, something which seems to be working for me of late has been to carry a small notebook with me all the time.. so whenever I get some time to kill like in the bus, or bus stop, I just pen in my thoughts.. (also askin the girl sitting next to me in the bus fr a pen has been helpin my redundant social life too :D)
of course, since I tend to lose interest in things faster than u can say 'notebook', dunno hw long it'll stay...
but, it hs been quite helpful till now.... I now have more women who don't take my calls :)
It helps to just talk about it sometimes, helps to get your thoughts in order. And perhaps priorities as well.
Since the OP has disappeared, can we hijack this thread?
I wanted to talk about possible topics for my blog. But it doesn't warrant a new thread.
hehe
no, seriously.
ineteresting, u r running a good blog since long time and now wanna discuess about possible topics :). If u does not have a topic at all, spend some time on yahoo answers, read what kind of questions peoples have and start writing on them. not neccerry tech, take anything of your choice in which you are good. DO NOT CHOOSE how to BABY SIT a Baby ya how to find a girl freind :P :P
No no, not that kind of topic.
Till now, I was generalizing. and we have 15-20 posts only, and all are on different topics. Its a general blog. A mix of humor, politics, angry rants, etc. Was wondering if it would be better to FOCUS on some specific topic. I have a very high bounce rate. and People other than Bangalore or Hyderabad don't visit much. Suprisingly, my most visited post has no visitors from Chennai, even though that post is specific to Tamil Nadu.
So, I needed some help to focus. My co-author and I are going to decide this weekend what to do about this general vs focussed writing.
Needed thoughts or ideas.
it's not like u were not getting time to write a post, but you do not want to write a post because it sounds boaring to you . isn't ?
It takes about 30 minutes to write a post, now in your 24 hrs a day taking 30 minutes for a post is not a big deal . Heard of "will power" ? IF you really want to do something, you can do that.but if you say u dont get time, that's the biggest lie i even heard.
Oh, you could do what I did today. Didn't have internet at office, so typed out a post on my phone and uploaded it.
When you have the time, you can jot down your thoughts/ideas on your phone. If you have a "smartphone" then it may have a blogging software or at least a note-taking software. That way you can write the post in parts - whenever you get a few minutes.
Just a thought.
great ideas rumbaho,
