thanx....yeah i hv heard a lot abt dis book but never read.....vll try to read asap...

The last awesome book I read was 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley. It is essentially a satirical take on the mass production and standardization of society. I'd say it's a must-read.

Fountainhead  by  Ayn Rand. (Philosophy)

Lord of the Rings  by  JRR Tolkein. (Fantasy)

On Intelligence  by  Jeff Hawkins. (Engineering/NeuroScience) (Makes for a good casual read also)

Many more.....

Oooh, I had a major crush on Roark. LOTR gets off to a heavy start, but once you are done with the series, you feel like you are a part of a whole new world of fantasy. It never ceases to astonish you how Tolkein managed to dream up an entire set of people and even their language.

Oh my GOD! I love Roark too, Sindhu! And yea, Ayn Rand Khaled Hosseni.. read them.

LOTR is something I have never been able to read! I start.. then the size of the book and the magnitude of it.. scares me away!! :(

@Hakuna : I started LOTR 4 weeks b4 my semester exam and dint touch my subjects till i finished it. tht was 2 weeks. Tongue out

@Kadambari : I started with reading novels in pretty much the same way. started off with Harry Potter and finished off 6 books in 14 days. later all books caught me pretty easily. LOTR is no diff. I started reading it from the Prelude - 'The Hobbit' too.Smile

And, can i say i had a crush in Dominique? oh yes I can! Wink next up, I've bought Atlas Shrugged.

Consider the fact that i read every book in my early reading days from e-book. till as recent as my prev 3 books. :P

Kadambari, try skipping the Prologue. Just head straight to the first chapter, you don't miss much. Come back to the prologue after you finish the book, you will find it relevant and interesting. That's what I did with LOTR. :D

P.G. woodhouse is my favourite too.

As far as chicklit is concerned try the shopaholic series and gossip girl series... just started with the later.

Last week i finishd 'A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini'... loved it

Also there is- 'catch 22', 'catcher in the rye', 'not a penny more not a penny less' .... my absolut fav, 'the glass palace', 'hungry tide'.

Guess i need not mention Dan Brown's Angels and Demons and Sidney Sheldon's Windmill of the gods.

PS: Personally i believe in not buying the books .... but almost just FYI (in case u r interested) i know for sure all the ebooks are available for free download.

I have White Tiger ebook, but I would suggest you guys to buy the book, read it and keep it. Worth the read . :)

Not a Penny More Not a Penny Less is not a collection of short stories. It's actually Archer's first novel. It's an excellent, excellent money scam-revenge thriller.

His short story collections are Twist in the Tale and Quiver Full of Arrows.

Oh yeah, that and A quiver full of arrows

Not a penny more, not a penny less is an excellent book..The initial pages are a bit boring, but if u can read past them, then the plotting and planning depicted in the novels are very engrossing.

My all time favorite, apart from Ayn Rand, is Erich Segal. The Class, Doctors were all awesome! Khaled Hosseni weaves some kind of magic with his words. I'm also reading Shantaram right now. Read books by Dan Brown & Jeffery Archer too.

But hey, how come no one mentioned Harry Potter?! I would love those books even if I turn 60! Laughing

So, I now have to read some of the books suggested above! (Hitchikers and LOTR). I find LOTR to be more complicated than my course books! Trust me, I attempted reading it almost 4 times! Never succeeded! Mera number bhi aayega!

@Kadambari Read all 7 of Potter series last yr almost continously. Loved each one of them & still go back to them. Read entire Godfather series as well. Do u hav that Robin Cooks medical thriller as an e-book? Has anyone read the twilight series? There was much hype abt it as being the sole competitor of Harry Potter books & movies. Also has anyone seen the 1st twilight movie?

My ones,

Shantaram, How Starbucks changed my Life,  White Tiger are my current favourites.

Books of V.S. Naipul are my all time favourties. The Second World is the current one.

Cheerio,

PN.

I too have read these three novels, and become a fan of Naipaul.

1. The Mystic masseur : book describes the career of an imaginative islander who rises through a series of failures as a teacher, a writer, and a masseur to become a successful politician and then ultimately a disillusioned Member of the British Empire (M.B.E.)

2. A House of Mr. Biswas : Novel traces the struggle of Mr. Biswas to own a house which he ultimately does manage to acquire, though his premature death has a touch of tragedy about it.

3. Guerrillas : novel deals with a Carribbean island after its achievement of freedom.

Nice to see many Wodehouse fans here. :D I'm one too! Does anyone read Robin Cook's medical thrillers? Some folks feel they're too technical, but despite coming from a non-medical background, I enjoy them thoroughly.
