Yatra backlink removal request

I got an email from Swati Makhija <swati.makhija@yatra.com> asking me to remove the link from my blog post. The post was an entry for a Yatra contest before. Should I remove the links? Here's the email:

Hello,

This mail is regarding backlink removal request, as I am working on to clean my website, and I need your help in removing some links from your site. Your site is probably perfectly legitimate, but I’m just trying to eliminate as many links as possible.

--Here’s is your website page:

http://blog.learnitsayit.com/a-yearly-yatra/

--Here are my backlink URL’s:

http://www.yatra.com/airlines/,

http://www.yatra.com/flight-schedule/

--Anchor Text: Airlines,Flight Schedule

The link need to be actually removed, rather than just disavowed. Even if they are “nofollow,” I would still like them removed.

It would be great, if you remove the link. Once you will remove the link, please send me a quick note so I can create a record of it.

Thanks in advance! I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind Regards,

Swati

Yeah, remove it. Too many backlinks penalize the site. They probably got someone who knows what's happening and trying their best. Removing the link is no harm. Besides the email id is from Yatra...so fair enough.

I too have just now received the same email from swati Swati Makhija <swati.makhija@yatra.com>, asking me to remove the backlink. I have no problem in removing the backlink, it's just that we were told to keep the backlink for at least 1 year (yatra happy hours). So should we go ahead and remove the backlink? Yeah, I guess they are doing this because of late Google has been penalizing those sites that have got too many backlinks. And probably this is the reason why we haven't had a Happy Hours contest since a longgggg time Tongue out I mean why would any client want his/her website to get penalised?

We'll check with Yatra, but of course, go ahead and remove the backlink, not a problem! Smile

I think most of us owe it to Yatra to make us migrate to a custom domain, which was a turning point in my blogging career .

Removing a backlink is not an issue at all... however, if they are try to dissociate themselves from posts that are not as flattering as they would want them to be, they are simply trying to bulldoze into the rightful territory of a blogger who has the right to put things in his own way. This could also mean that the freedom to express is being challenged... though I hope this is not the case.

can we remove the post too? i guess if they don't want to associate with the post, then better remove the post too, what do you think?

No. I have faced this issue in a few other brands else where, where the guy said he received a warning mail from google for too many unnatural links .

so they are being told to remove immediately :)

You've invested creative energy in writing the post, Kajal... why remove it? Though I guess, it is entirely your choice.

It's just a link, imagine yourself in such a situation what would you do? Just a blogger to blogger, help her1

Ideally I'd leave it as it is. Unless they have a legal reason (such as something negative/defamatory), they have no valid reason to ask you to take down the link. I agree with Arvind on the bulldozing issue.
