Why do Bloggers not post their Profile Pics on Indiblogger?

I haven't used my photo ( I don't like putting my photos on the net  ) as my profile picture. And I was confused about which image I use use as my profile picture. So, I simply opened paint, made the background red and wrote my name on it.  

Can anyone explain why some bloggers have no profile pics on indiblogger? 

May be they are lazy or never felt the need for it. 

I don't know -- how long does it take to pick up a picture and post it? :)

But choosing the right picture is a big task. 

I don't have a profile pic because I am simply too lazy to do so.  But I have one question: why do you promote the posts looking at the profile picture? Isn't it the content of the post that matters rather than who wrote it? When I promote the post, I don't look who has written it. If I like a post and if that blogger is not in my network, I will simply add him/her to my network; so that I when I see the posts from my network that blogger's post will show up. That's it. Then I can read their works and promote it if I like it.

IMHO:

I don't know why, but it is the inherent tendency of bloggers (including me) to read posts of bloggers with a profile picture.

It is not necessary to have real photographs as one  can go for design,scenery,cartoons,celebrities etc. Blank-custom-given-picture renders such a boring feel that bloggers often avoid to read those posts, forget about the voting.

Temptation and lethargy fall in the domain of the subconscious mind and so every preaching or wise lectures condemning the same shall turn futile.

A profile pic reperesents a blogger, so it is natural to want to avoid folks who won't even bother to identify themselves with some picture.

I agree that profile pics don't tell us about the quality of posts. But if I like someone's post, I'd rather be able tospot them anywhere on the site. A profile pic is an identity, something people remember the blogger by.

Also, I always promote one post per blogger per day, because we have a limt of 100 bloggers, and I think everyone should be treated fairly when it comes to promoting them. If I add too many people without the profile pics to my network, I have to remember who I have already promoted based on their name alone.

And I guess I'm too lazy to do that!

Yes AV, I haven't bothered yet to see if I know how to use Gravator And to be honest, if I try and find out that I don't know how to use Gravator, I am in no mood to learn it. I simply don't feel like bothering with it.

I agree. Though I was never interested in using 'my real picture' in my DP when I entered IB but still, I knew I wanted to use 'a picture'. And, the reasons for it were the same that you have pointed >>

- It helps people identify and spot you easily in a crowd. Otherwise, you might be increasing your chances of being missed by fellow bloggers.

- Helps build a brand identity on a site.

Valid point, Damyanti. I found the number of votes on Indivine for my posts shot up after I took on a Gravitar. Aslo it is not a good idea to keep changing profile names and Gravtar if one wants to be remembered.

Gravatar is easy once it is set up-- I had it already for my wordpress blog. I still can't bring myself to follow those without a profile pic on indiblogger.

It's hard as hell to set up this pic. I went through a lotta trouble to create that Gravitar. I only didnt quit because a lot of effort had gone into making this pic.

Gravatar takes a little time, but it's not so hard.

Damyanti, I think he meant creating the profile image!  I'm sure that the superman's head does not look like the one in Stagg's DP.

It may be ppl want to be live in some privacy.... moreover we should respect that but I also can't understand that what they actually are doing on social networking sites when they needs privacy or are not ready for the transparency.

If privacy is a concern they can pick any random picture. Almost anything is better than that ghostly red icon.

okay, point is correct. It is easier to remember one by picture than by name. It does not tell about quality of posts, but decreases the load on brain. Lets save our dimaag

Bit late but thought I'd just chip in here - as someone with that ghostly red icon (I dislike it too!) Gravtaar is way too complicated and highly off-putting :)  I don't want to have to create another separate account ( I'm on Blogger and not WP) if IB had a Gravtaarless option here, I'd put a picture up pronto. 

may be they don't have accounts on gravatar. 

Very interesting reading. Now google has taken the initiative of removing anonymity from the internet. Google Authorship ask for verification of credentials which include a photo with a clear headshot.

Old topic, but still valid. I returned to blogging this march after a hiatus of 10 years. I dont use a profile photo, instead a self-portrait silohuette works well. Its human tendency to find 'a voice' in what's written. To add a photograph goes a notch above that. For certain topics - poetry, taboo topics (three letter words), there's some comfort in anonymity. Others - politics, travel, sports, one would like to associate a face to the post. There's nothing definitive about this choice.

I have become so obsessed with my profie pic that I have removed my real picture from all the social networks and instead am using my existing one. I have become so obsessed with my existing profile pic that I have choped off my once shiny bouncy kkk srk types hair to match the pic. in short there is obsession and danger to even profile pics :) 

I think privacy may be a concern. But they have to know that it is not a social media site which everyone visits. This website is popular among bloggers. And I think with bloggers there is no privacy concern.

I don't know whatever the concern is/was regarding profile picture. I feel that the profile picture defines the identity of the person in any way. Some may be kiddish in their nature and like to drop a cartoon picture, some are influenced by fairy tales and they define them with fairy tale character. Some May choose an abstract that they feel, will best define their soul or character. Sometimes when you are sad you would like to upload a  picture that portrays the sad soul within you. and when you are happy you may select a greener side. And some may be confused with what will be the best snap to make their profile a chosen one. Also, some may not take profile picture a serious case, no matter what.

More than any other person we always have a look at our profile picture. It's not a matter of checking all the time but the profile picture always remains stuck at every page. 

In my case, I have uploaded mine as i always want to face the world with "the real me". I want the best and healthy critics and want to step up. I want to let people know who am i. It was a time when i wrote fancy names as my username with a heroic character. Now my candles are Increasing in number on my birthday cake and I don't think much to upload my profile pic.

The 'real me', I must say, can never be the 'latest me'... or the 'newest me'... :) Thus one reason why many bloggers may opt to have no picture uploaded is because they wish to stay away from constantly having to replace an old pic with a new pic or being told that 'you don't look in real life what you seem to be on the social media'. :)

I tried to use my blog logo, and tried uploading many times, but not showing. Don't know why. Is it coming from Gravatar? How to bring from Gravatar?

Go to Dashboard-> Account Settings. On the left side of your account name, you will see a blank grey box. Simply drag your avatar or select the image after clicking on the box. Once you, do that, there will be three icons. Click on the one with an arrow pointing upwards. Once the saved signed comes on the top right part of the image, you're done. Just in case, click on that update button.After that, wait. It takes some time to see that difference. 

It is just an avatar. We've been having the avatar since the 90s? It is been used in forums, free sites like Geocities/expage and even ICQ. It is your version of representing yourself like a nickname. Like mine! It is always Domo, the big bad brown boy! Because I am the big bad brown boy! :D

Actually, I also happen to identify the posts through the Profile Pic... and I was thinking that i was alone in thinking so. I would like to thank Damyanti for broaching the topic for discussion.
