I had started blogging about six months back. Now I want to upload small one or two minutes video to my food blog posts. Can anyone suggest a good video editing app that is free to download. I am a beginner, and do not want to spend money on buying an app.

In the more recent versions, it works on the highest version of the OS. Tongue out

Giveawayoftheday.com, Softpedia.com are some good places to look for. Who knows you get a premium version of a good video editing software at GOTD. Publishers like Ashampoo, etc regularly participate in giveaways there.

Another good place to look for is FossHub. You can start the search here - http://www.fosshub.com/Video-Editors.html

Might as well give a try to Filmora. Its on trial, but a perfect tool to edit videos for someone who doesn't want to put a lot of head into it.

I want one more suggestion. Should I upload the video directly to my blog, or upload to You Tube and then paste its link in my blog? Which is the better option?

Uploading on YouTube and embeddeding it, is any day better. Couple of reasons:

+ YouTube provides a fast solution in terms of hosting  reliable being a Google Product.

+ Gives you other options like monetization

+ Why feed your bandwidth when YouTube saves it for you?

+ Easy to embed, share.

Thanks for your suggestions Tanishq. I will keep these points in mind.

My work is getting delayed due to some personal reasons. Once I upload the video I will be looking forward to reviews from all of you.

Hey, I have uploaded my first video! @Tanishq I uploaded it on YouTube, and then embedded it on my blog post.

Please have a look of the video. You can easily visit my blog by clicking on my pic or name. I am not sure whether I can share links to my blog or YouTube here. Am new to Indoblogger.

One issue that I definitely want to correct in my next video is that the film that I have uploaded is not covering the complete screen. There is black space left around the video. Is it something to do with pixels? I have shot the video using my mobile phone camera. Please suggest how I can correct this next time.

I edited the film on window movie maker.

Hello Vandana Ma'am, I saw your video and I must say that you have done a commendable job with the editing part, even though you were doing it for the first time Smile. And you also need not worry about the video's quality, it has come out very good although you shot it with a cell phone.

Regarding the black space that you see on the right and the left and sometimes all around the video (like the blender part), yes, that's because of the video's aspect ratio. Before starting the video recording with your cell phone, check its settings and it's better to shoot the video in the landscape mode (the video will be shot horizontally), rather then portrait mode (vertically shot -- for instance, in this video, you shot the blending part in a portrait mode. These days the phones automatically change the modes depending on how you are holding the phone. So regardless of how tall is the blender or other appliance is, make sure to hold your phone horizontally so that it shoots in the landscape mode.  Additionally if you can find option in your phone's camera to alter the aspect ratio, change that to 4:3. It's been a long time since I worked with window movie maker, probably it was in 2004. I can't recall correctly but I think I used to keep an aspect ratio of 4:3 rather than 16:9 while editing a video. I use Camtasia Studio to capture the laptop screen and sometimes filmora as well when I have to mix a different audio with a video. But even in these softwares, there are options to choose the aspect ratio. I will check that and will let you know.

While choosing the video size, keep it 640 into 480 pixels

Also rather than choosing wmv or swf or any other format, it's better to choose the mp4 format while converting the video before uploading to youtube. Mp4 format works best on youtube, will render a good quality and will also load comparatively faster.

Probably if you choose a 1:1 aspect ratio, your video will have no blank black space around it, it will take up all the available space. However the video might feel stretched out. You can however do some hit and trial and check if it's coming out alright.

Keep a backup of the final video with you. Youtube has a weird working copyright infringement thingy which removes videos which is well under fair usage.
