Is content still a king?

A year back when I dived with enthusiam in the web ocean, I thought of reaching the pearl very fast. What with the back up of content and experience I had in my field. Only to find myself floating on the surface.

To cut short, after a short stint on the net with just content in my hands and practically no knowledge about how a web world operates, I had to learn and redo my site for better. Which cost me my time.

Now 70% of my time goes in checking hits, followers, replies, submissions, more followers, mails......the writer is taking a nap. I am eager to know your views on the same, are there readers who care for the content ?

Put it in simple words, "which parameter decides the success ratio of any site?"

Content Vs Social media(technology)

Yes! content is still the king. let me put it this way... Integrating social media with content makes it a popular destination for people to reach back on to your site often. SEO makes it more easier to access through search engines... All in all everything is important.

Agree, but too much involvement in tech world takes away the essence of writing.

The time which should have been spent to articulate an article goes literally for checking  hits, stats, followers, twitters and so on....which again is necessary to keep ticking in the web.

So where is the quality content?

Sanjeeta, I guess we all have to willy nilly pay some minimal attention to mechanics but content by itself is the pre-eminent thing-the life breath of a blog. There can be no question on that.

Yes Varsha I too believe in the magic of content. The wand always being in the hands of Technology when it comes to the net.

Why are you feeling so cynical Sanjeeta?

Also though traffic on your site is good for the ego-let us not make it the sole indicator of a good site. All kinds of things sell in the market for all kinds of reasons. That does not mean whatever is selling is the best.If your first commitment is to put forth things/ideas which you are passionate about, your blog will give you lasting satisfaction besides drawing people who are genuinely interested in that field.

Keep in mind that if you were to post pics of playboy centrespread your traffic would hit the roof.

Thanks Varsha. The question was not posted due to  personal dissatisfaction. It was generated out of curiosity to understand the web world from others' angle. About what sells better here, content or the tech zigmos? Or is it 50-50?

I was of the opinion that content is the soul of any site, but then integrating technology into it the might reap better results.

Honestly.... there are times when I am not convinced that content still holds the key. Atleast not primarily. There is so much more that you have to worry about- presentation, SEO etc. You leave your comments one 500 webpages, your traffic increases. There are so many things one can do to make people read more of what you blog about.

However, only if you have great content will the traffic be constant or atleast a part of it.

True Blue Sunride, the more sicial media one integrates the more traffic one generates. And not the other ways.

So content is the soul of any site, but heart beat is generated by social media.

This is a good topic.

Frankly speaking, with so many people blogging and so much networking happening sometimes the really good blogs get lost in the huge ocean of blogging. People who actively involve in networking through social media get more traffic on their blog, atleat initially. So to keep oneself floating, even the genuinely good ones have to resort to the I-scratch-your-back-you-scratch-mine philosophy. But as everyone here said, after the initial hype, only blogs with genuine and creative content will be popular. Just enjoy writing as a passion and don't worry too much abt the traffic ;)

Thanks Pavan for the informative piece. Passion for writing is that last string which keeps a writer floating for long even in adverse conditions.

As ponited rightly by Mohan that 'Integrating social media with content makes it a popular destination for people to reach back on to your site often.'

So for time being we'll have to keep scratching backs to survive in the net!

Good content with ability to catch a viewer's attention backed up with an equally eye catching appearance of the site. This will sum up any successful blog for you.

I think Content is the king if you look at the long run. But to get readers interested you need good appearance and interacting social media. The Mistake that people do is that, people think that they are celebs and dont even reply to comments.

And the whole quality blog thing is very subjective. It differs from person to person. I like only humor blogs. I have a different benchmark for quality.

I replied to your comment!!

Good remark about comments.

I feel, in the net, social media wins over content, unless one has patince to wait for the long run.

My views, you are welcome to differ.

Hi Sanjeeta,

I feel content is the king..... as when i did not update my blog for a month i saw a dip in the visits, as there was no new content.

But some times I have seen contents taking back seat too, if the blogger has very strong social network.

Sanjeeta KK

So its 50-50 from your point of view.

Yes content is the king, but one can't survive with content alone. I have browsed many sites with explicit and well written content, but the sites are no where in the SEO's. As the site is not much exposed or the site owner is unaware of all the tech gadgets required to reach SEO.

Of Course once the site is up and going content takes the front seat, as this feature alone can drive the site further. But at the beginning stages support of social media is required to spread the awareness.

Hope many bloggers share their views about the approximate use of content and technology, and help fellow and up coming Indian bloggers to show their best to the world in the net.

I suppose content is the King and good comments is the Queen. Most of the sites I see that have many comments also have good content. And conversely, the sites that place good quality content do tend to have many comments.

Good content does not necessarily mean writing with the quality of a writer. It just means that the content should be useful to many people so that they enjoy reading it and actually spend some of their valuable time commenting on it. And since they find the content valuable they expect there will be more valuable content and subscribe to it and keep visiting it.
