Blogwalking etiquette - If someone comments on your blog, do you comment back?

Blogwalking is the practice of visiting multiple blogs to read and comment on at least one article every day.

I try to blogwalk for a few minutes every day. I leave a thoughtful comment on every blog and hope for a reciprocal visit and further engagement over a period of time.

What is your blog walking strategy?

Well, to be honest i've been having a busy schedule for quite a long time now. So i don't even get the time to read the posts of the blogs i follow everyday. So its like... after 2-3 days i take some time off.. visit all those new blogposts, read them, comment maybe. Thats all.

When it comes to commenting, I usually do so if I really like what someone has written. I don't generally make it a point to comment on a blog everyday. I comment only when i like a blogpost.

Hey Xeno. You misunderstood. Obviously, one does not advocate visiting rubbish blogs. The idea is to discover new blogs, keep visiting them, develop a relationship, and keep discovering new blogs. All of this effort will hopefully be reciprocated if all of us follow these practices.

oh yeah.

Yeah thats right.

I definitely comment back if someone has commented on my blog unless his blog is completely out of my minds and my understandings reach!!! I used to blog walk when I was new to blogging and found many good blogs who became friends and loyal readers of my blog. Now blog walking is very rare for me as most of the time is spent visiting the Blogs which I love and which I follow!!

I comment and read the blogs , but unfortunately most of the times the love is not reciprocated back Tongue out..And to be honest i get really irriatated at time because i make it a point to read and comment who does the same to me. Sometimes i think may be i just write crap that's why people don't reciprocate the love, then i think it's possible that not everybody is like me having all the time in the world. In the end the strategy is just to soothe down reading a good piece of poetry from a fellow blogger. :)

When I was new in the blogging world,  I was just like you. I too would get annoyed at not getting a return back. But now no more. I have accepted the fact that there are all sorts of people in the world, some think reciprocation is good while some don't really care about these things! Cant help it. But I never regret at having commented on someone's blog irrespective of whether its going to be reciprocated or not Smile

I mostly participate in memes as mine is more of a lit blog. So if I have time, I visit other participant blogs. I used to relegiously read every post on Blog-a-ton a monthly contest I have been participating for more than a year. Now I am not having much time to both read others and write my own. So I just post on meme blogs and wait for people to visit and just reciprocate. Similarly I try to read the blogs of whoever votes for me here leave a comment. If they reciprocate with a comment for my next one , I keep visiting. If they do not and only vote, I beleive them to be voting witout reading and I reciprocate likewise - vote without reading unless the writing is compellingly good and useful.

I, too, enjoy commenting back and forth until we've both resolved the conversation. :)

I don't always comment on the blogs of people who've commented on my blog. That's never a sustainable strategy of blog promotion. This is kind of like link exchange-never works in the long term (I'm saying this on the basis of personal experience with my first site a few years ago). There's only one way to build traffic-cultivating a genuine readership. Random link exchanges are short term strategies and can never make you and Amit Aggarwal, assuming that's what you're gunning for. :)

Yes, that's right, Amogh. I didn't have in my mind for this thread blog promotion strategies per se. It's just about blogwalking etiquette, especially when you first start blogging and discovering the blogosphere.

Hi all,

I had written a blog post on blogger ettiquettes (called a cheat sheet :) ) last year based on my experience of being a blogger for the past 8 years.

Hope this helps!
