Site traffic - ways and what plays a big role?

I recently got my blog adsense approved.

As you know, getting full out of adsense, one needs good traffic on his/her site. My traffic as of now stands as ordinary.

I've read a load about SEO and it seems a genuine way forward to gain traffic but then I've heard that there are some other alternatives too. Does anyone here has any suggestions? Besides promoting on social networking sites and of course getting solid traffic from indiblogger. What are the other free ways or at max paid traffic generating ways - I'm willing to spend max 1,000RS per month.

Any help? :)

I didn't mean that I would buy traffic. I was reading on a site today that one can buy trending 'keywords' from google and implement them on his/her side. Again, I've got no knowledge about this and hence I've created the thread. Nor do I go for any cheap traffic generating trick nor do I plan to do so.

The idea behind this thread is, I've got an uncle whose on IndiBlogger too. He's got a site on spirituality and is keen on getting good traffic on it. I just want to get an idea on how one can get good traffic. If someone could explain SEO, I'd be greatly thankful. :)

one can buy trending 'keywords' from google

They are like trending hashtags on twitter. Those sites sell you a list of keywords which people search for.

Keywords are to an extent important. For example, you wrote an article titled X and X has a synonym Y which people generally search for. If Google's knowledge base is not sufficient, it may not be able to deduce that X and Y have the same meaning and won't rank your article in search results for Y.

Now, about trending keywords, it is writing about what people are searching for instead of optimising what you generally write.

I will suggest that you don't buy any of those things. They won't be of much help and most of those services are fake.

For better SEO techniques you have to move to wordpress, it has lot of plugins for SEO like yoast etc.  As far as getting traffic is concerned, that neither seo can help nor Google God himself can helpFrown, it depends entirely on your content.  I saw your site, you need to optimize the ads.  People generally dont see the right hand side of the blog too much.

@Vijay - Thanks buddy, I will surely optimize my ads.

Besides the blogger blog, I've also got a wordpress blog. The average traffic I get there per day is around 150-200. Now, in order to add adsense there, I need a .org wordpress blog, I've got .com

For .org I have to pay 6,000 for an year. Is it worth paying this? Considering the traffic I'm getting?

Also, I'm planning to shift to a .com domain. There are many companies out there giving .com domain at a very reasonable price, any one here that has tried godaddy?

@Vijay - I understand your point about SEO. Is it of no help at all? I can see on godaddy's website that it offers SEO at 200 for an year, considering what you and Ranjith are saying on this, I believe I should pass SEO?

Sorry Aditya had written a long long reply but wasnt posted Cry

1. Godaddy gives custom domains for cheap (Rs.109.00 I think) search for godaddy 109 offer on Google.  I have three websites on godaddy and its good

2. Dont go for wordpress Cool  If you really want go for a host and custom domain and install wordpress on that host.

3. Paid SEO tools naah avoid them.  Go here attracta.com for free seo tools

@Vijay - Many thanks for your help. Godaddy it is then. Another rookie question (:p) - after buying a custom .com domain, is the process of building a website easy/self-explanatory or I have to buy some thing else too?

Nope once you buy a custom domain you have to point your blogger domain to custom domain (both in blogger dashboard and godaddy panel).  Dont worry about the moving process I, Ranjith, CK can help you with that.

Remember, you will lose all your ranks with custom domains and fresh ranks will be generated

@Vijay - Mainly, I'm more concerned about my uncle's blog at the moment. Considering that I cannot post his blog's link here (he's on Indiblogger though), he's got a blog on spirituality.

He's been advised to move from blogger to a custom domain to improve his site traffic/viewing, besides he's also keen on earning through adsense, he's adsense approved. He already has a .com domain but that's for a business of his.

Reason I mentioned about wordpress earlier was because my uncle has got a wordpress blog, on which he's getting good traffic but it's a free domain (.com on wordpress) and so, he cannot add adsense on it.

I for one have got a simple blog and I'm not much bothered about adsense as of now, there's a long way for me to go as a blogger. I'd really appreciate if you could guide me whether I should tell my uncle to shift to a custom domain or not.

Pardon me, I realize I've asked many questions. Really appreciate your help buddy :)

Reason I mentioned about wordpress earlier was because my uncle has got a wordpress blog, on which he's getting good traffic but it's a free domain (.com on wordpress) and so, he cannot add adsense on it.

I think upgrading wordpress to org also doesnt allow ads (get some wp specialist's opinion on that).  There is a earlier thread also on that issue.  If he want to shift to a selfhosted custom domain it will be a costly affair (host charges per annum + domain name charges per annum) Its your choice bro.

Yep, it is very expensive. If he wants to move wordpress from .com to .org, he'll have to spent 6,000 INR whereas if he buys a custom domain he will get one in just 120/year and then 550 for the next years.

Personally speaking, I've advised him to not go for a wordpress update and instead buy a custom domain, which he agrees with. It's just that if he shifts to a .com domain he would have to reapply for adsense all over again but then there's certainly going to be a betterment in his site's views/looks/following. :)

Cheers Vijay and the rest for all your help. :)

nope bro you got it wrong Frown if he is on wordpress.com he has to buy a host and a domain

Its like this

blogger > custom domain = host blogger + domain custom

wordpress.org > host wordpress.com with custom domain or xxx.wordpress.com domain (Adsense wont word on websites upgrading to wordpress.org even if you spend 6000.00 bucks)

totally move from wordpress.com to self hosted custom domain > host + custom domain

Dont make any decision unless you understand the above

@vijay - Just to inform wordpress.org sites are not hosted by Wordpress.com

There are three kind of Wordpress sites

1. yourblog.wordpress.com - Hosted at wordpress.com - Free site - No ads

2. Yoursite.com - hosted at wordpress.com - You pay for domain - No ads

3. Yoursite.com - Self hosted - You pay for both domain and hosting - Ads can be used. (Have to design it yourself using wordpress theme)

The third example I have mentioned is a wordpress.org site.

There is a huge difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com

Wordpress.com - free blogging site

Wordpress.org - free blogging platform - it gives you theme or the website

Hope it helps. :)

If you promoting your blog to social media, forum site, blog commenting then you got most of no-follow links, that is the most reason for low pagerank. you can convert No-Follow link To Do-Follow using little HTML trick.

NF The method you suggested won't work!

That method uses meta refresh! How 90s! :P That's something Google really hates. Even if it were to pass pagerank, it'll pass a 0 page rank that it gets from the nofollow page. :) Won't work.

Most of my traffic is "direct." Even if Google shuts shop (bang repetitively on wood), I'll still keep at least half my traffic. Content is king. Work for content.
