Milaap's Hope Project, can we try to make it a trending topic on twitter

Hi, all who all thinks it would be a worthwhile step to make a trending topic out of this topic of Hope Project, this weekend? Any trending tag like #HelpDevadasiProject or #HelpStopDevadasiTradition etc.

There are 15 entries of borrowers under that Devadasi category (Hope project). Our target should be to raise maximum fund for them. Anything like collection of 90% of total fund should be targetted, and a united effort should be put up to spread the word (apart from our own individual efforts of course).

So if we make a related topic trend on twitter with our continuous conversation on twitter, will it be good enough(may be it could grab attention of some big people?)? How much differenece can it make? Any takers?

I am always in, but want to see others response.

Hi Shantinath, sorry we missed this message - just new to this forum and getting a hang of how things work! Smile On your note, we love the idea  of starting a topic on Twitter and would surely support you with our Twitter handle. How do we get more participation in this topic? Do you think, #HelpDevadasiProject or #HelpStopDevadasiTradition would become a trending topic? Let us know what are your thoughts!

Thanks for responding to it :) About making a trending topic, I think it depends on the no. of tweets being posted in a time interval, ad may be on the no. of people participating in it too. Typically, the tweets have to be in thousands to become trending. So it all depends on the no. of people participating in a conversation. If enough people don't feel interested, it will be difficult. I just wished to see what others think about it. If even 15-20 people wud have been interested, we could have given it a try.

Thanks for responding positively to the idea Renie. So here is the plan:- 1) We will have to choose a timing which is both non-peak time, as well as a time comfortable for us to be online and tweeting."Non-peak time", in order to avoid competition with other topics being discussed on twitter. Ideally, a time of Saturday afternoon, Saturday mid-night or Sunday afternoon, will be most suited matching both these criteria. 2)The trending of a topic probably depends upon so many factors, but two most important being- no. of tweets being tweeted and no. of people participating in the conversation. So we will have to strategise accordingly. Here are a few things we can do:- a) Retweet each others' tweets having the particular hashtag. b) Try to start a discussion amongst us, all our tweets containing that hashtag. c) Convince a fee common people on twitter who have followers in thousands, to post a few tweets on the issue, with that hashtag. It will help indulge more people in conversation. d) May be we can tag such people (having followers in thousands) in some of our tweets, to make them notice it. 3) We should decide on a hashtag as short as possible, but I would suggest it must contain "Devadasi". Some suggestions from my side would be #HelpExDevadasi #HelpFightDevadasiSystem etc. 4) On a wicked note, negatives attract attention. So we can try to make the issue a controversial one. We can discuss on twitter, how much religion is to blamed for this tradition, and tag some religious hard-core enthusiasts in those tweets. That is all. I am not sure how many indibloggers are active on twitter. But if you could post this idea as a separate forum topic, to see how many people bloggers are interested, I think we could get a more realistic estimate. With 15-20 willing people, I think we can give it a serious try. The benefits will be immense. Apart from spreading awareness, it may also help get more lenders for the Hope Project. Also, who knows if it grabs some celebrities or media house attention! On a personal level, We can also slip our blog-post links in some tweets, so it can get more viewers for our blog too. So the efforts will be worth it I am sure.

Sounds like a good idea, Shantinath.  I am in! Smile A relatively smaller hashtag would be good, I believe.

Rakhee, Khusboo, and Arti: Thanks for showing interest in it and finding it worthy enough :) Let's see how the plan goes through. We will need to discuss it out and act in a synchronised manner.
