I don't know about the 50% exclusive offer though.

If you are looking for a .com domain name it would cost anywhere about 600 - 900 per year. Most companies provide them at 99Rs + 12 Rs(ICANN Fee) for the first year. After that you need to pay the above mentioned amount. For setting up the domain and any other technical queries, discounts do get in touch with me. Would be glad to help you out ! Cool

Hope this helps !

Yes, like Atul said, currently the cheapest domains available in india with reliable services are of .com or .in and provided by bigrock and godaddy. Right now, Bigrock.in is offering a .com domain for just Rs 99 (for the first year i.e.) and similarly GoDaddy too was offering at Rs 99 but has now increased it to Rs 125 (for the first year) and this offer is only for the new registrants.

Godaddy is also offering a .in domain at Rs 99 for the first year, however you will have to pay the fees for the 2nd year too (Rs 599 or something) along with Rs 99 for the first year - i.e. you will have to register for 2 years, so the total value will come to around Rs 650 or thereabouts.

Shukriya Amit..which means and I presume that with the offer from IB, the rate would be approx 50% of this rate.

What is the offer from IB?

I am not aware of any IB discount Cry but if they have sent you a promo code for a domain, I think probably you won't be able to combine that discount or promocode with the Rs 99 promocode for taking a .COM domain from bigrock or Rs 125 .com domain from Godaddy. Because usually we can't club two or more coupon codes together, we can use only one promocode.

It says that it would give a discount of 50%, the rates are unavailable..so no idea about the actual rate that one would be paying.

If IB is saying that the coupon would give a 50% discount, then it must be working. You can do one thing, think of a good domain name and try it on the particular website, wherever the promocode is applicable. Add it to the cart and see how much is it charging you after applying the coupon. You can always cancel the order without paying it then and there. Come back, think over it and after some more deliberation, you can try once again Laughing

Also the rates vary for different domain extensions, i.e. a .com domain usually costs more than .in domain and so on. You will find an option on the website where you can choose to see all the domain extensions and their prices. Based on that, you can choose one of them.

I have just done that and without applying coupon code (not able to do so..do not know why) the rate is Rs.588 for an .in domain for 2 years.

Rs 588 is comparatively a good sum to pay for 2 years, plus you get the reliability of GoDaddy!

what about hosting? just a domain name isn't enough, right?

Depending on the traffic and your requirements, you may or may not take a hosting package. If you get a good number of visitors to your blog, then taking a hosting package would make sense. But if you are just starting out, only a domain name will do. Like if your blog is based out of blogger, you don't need to take a hosting package because blogger will be providing you free hosting like it's doing right now without the custom domain. You only need a domain name, and then map it with blogger. That's it.

If you are on wordpress.com, apart from taking a domain name, wordpress will also charge you for the domain mapping. I guess, it's the same with wordpress.org.

Yes, as Amit said, Wordpress charges a domain mapping fee if you need only a domain name. But if you shift out your blog entirely from wordpress.com, then you would also need a Redirect that would cost $13 per year.

Further Wordpress.org is free offering and is available only for self hosted sites. It doesn't require any fee whatsoever. The only fee you would pay is hosting + domian name + domain redirect(if you have taken it)

can anyone help...

I have purchased .in domain for 1 year.Earlier I was working on free wordpress. What will happen after 1 year if I do not renew the membership or want to change to wordpress...in future

Atulpriya Sharma

Hi Kalpana,

The domain name will expire post 1 year. However your registrar will hold the name for sometime called as 'Grace Period' which can be few weeks. Even after your don't renew it during the grace period, there is a redemption period of 30-45 days. If you plan to renew your domain name in redemption period, you need to pay the annual fee + redemption fee. After the redemption period the domain name is in the open, so anyone can register than domain name.

Hope it helps.

Hello Kalpna,

If you're not a serious blogger, custom domain with wordpress can be expensive. And yes, you can move back to your free subdomain anytime.
