For the content you're making (since you're traveling) , you need to have a good theme. Something with a width. Also, 1 excerpt, 1 image per article on the front page. It makes it very hard to scroll and check other articles. Also, get a domain name with a catchy name. Make a logo and use it on the site and as a watermark. Also, image galleries. At least use a thumbnail which expands the image.
Check out travel video blogs and see how they make a video content out of the entire trip. Not that I am saying you should ignore written content, but attractive video content pulls more crowd. People even make videos showing their experience during the flight.
