will talk about the technical thing first, I am not sure the "Join this site" link and the list of members on the header is a great idea, it can surely catch the eye of a visitor but seems to be affecting the header a bit.

Now the sttructure, simple and easily readable

Contents, there comes the real advantage. You are very good in that area, keep writing and i am sure as you progress you will implement more enhancement on the design.
