Did you know that the English word Juggernaut is derived from the word Jagannath? It was during the 14th century that the western world heard of a spectacular event in India, in which thousands pulled a massive chariot in which an idol of Lord Jagannath was seated, as part of a religious ritual. The word Jagannath soon metamorphosed into Juggernaut and found its way into the English dictionary and vocabulary. The religious event was of course the Rath Yatra of Jagannath Puri.
