Ashoka the Great was one of the greatest emperors of India. He ruled from 268 to 232 BCE and his empire stretched from Kandhar, Taxila to Assam, Bengal and from Odisha, Maharashtra to Gujrat on western coast of India. Capital of his Magadha empire was Patliputra or modern Patna and provincial capitals were Ujjaini modern day Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh and Taxila in modern Pakistan.
