This article traces the trajectory of Buddhism in the ancient Indian city of Meerut and its surrounding region from the Ashokan period (c. 268 BCE - 232 BCE) to the reign of Harsha (c. 606-647 CE). The central artifact of this study is the Ashokan Pillar, originally erected in Meerut, which serves as the primary physical evidence of the region
