Why do People Spam in Comments?

I hate this part of blogging. I am a new blogger myself. but I have never spammed in the comments section of other's blogs!

People seem to think that the only way to create relevant backlinks, and getting people to notice their blog is to add the link in comments. And not even on relevant blogs in their own nche! On any blog they come across!

I would rather leave relevant and insightful comments, and if the blogger likes the comment, he/she will come over and visit my blog. What do you guys think? Am I just being over-sensitive to this issue, or is this a real problem?

God knows, but when you see facebook scams, where some xx site shows you as liking their pics and not showing on your timeline but all your friends time line and everyone starts blocking you, you may think these issues as petty.

Holy crap! That happened to you, Rio??

no bro. but my friend is victim and he doesn't know even. I just blocked him. poor soul. i checked his timeline and that pic didn't show up on his time line but showing up on my timeline as his like  click. No option to hide that as spam too. had to block him. i wrote a post on his timeline and blocked him.

i had blocked a reknowned dr. too four months ago.

Hi Aniruddhh,

Frankly speaking, at times i do leave my blog link on a comment. And thats only  when i would like to get a specific bloggers attention to my certain blog post. i thought "backlinks" are active when on a blog post rather than a "comment". Meow. I would be rather surprised if this is called as spamming.Because If that's the case then Sealed Cry!!

Spamming isn't just leaving a link in the comments. If you leave a good comment, and then link to a relevant post of your own, I don't mind at all. In fact, I would love to read that content. But just leaving a ling and saying Great Post is definitely spam!

Somebody leaving his/her bloglink modestly down the comment is really okey for me... but getting atleast 15-20 spam-comments with links to viagra sellers is the real headache... that's the only reason I've put 'moderation' option for my blog comments recently Laughing

I am lucky on that, no spams at my site,
Anunoy Samanta

hmmm lucky indeed... moreover you're always watchful from your header window, so it's not so easy for trespassers Wink

Hehehe, True, and those viagra people know that it's dangerous for the world to hand me one.

I agree with you completely, Anunoy. And you are definitely very lucky, Rio!

Well if the spammer is thinking that by putting his link in the comment he would get a back link for his page rank then he is the biggest fool :D if there is a link of his website in the post content then all the links directing to that same site in the comments will automatically turn into back links :D , he is just wasting his time as we would delete their comments by just single click :P and for more prevention I hv added some banned words too.. There was a time when I was getting 60+ daily spam comments! Then I took the initiative to put some banned words in the system :D

Good for you man. And most of these spammers are fools. Why the hell would I visit their site when they have nothing to say about my post? Idiots!

Why do people spam in comments?

To improve your 'ignore the BS' capacity I guessUndecided

They divert your anger, and are doing some social service
Aniruddha Rege

Haha! They certainly do improve that.

and sometimes to gift you the 'feel good' air that there's atleast someone to read/comment on your post... isn't that a noble act? Undecided

its not the people whom they want to get noticed by, its Google Bot. there are softwares to automate this process.

let me give you an estimate: one software can comment and backlink 10k+ blogs of different platforms simultaneously, this is the lowest estimate, there are tools than can reach 100K an hour lol

A lot of spams are really "SPAMS"... that means they are not even posted by real ppl and just some bots...

I was receiving 100s of such spams every month. Finally I installed Akismet plugin, now it automatically blocks most of these...

Anunoy Samanta

I can add raspberry ketones to your list Anunoy :) it's a problem for everyone I think, keep the moderation on and/or delete, that way only the meaningful comments will be kept.  don't let it put you off,  ignore it 4-5 spam comments are easily taken care of

Raspberry ketones, yo, read of it. Any reviews on it. Has anyone tried them.

This I agree with! deleting seems to be the only way to go ahead. Though Blogger doesn't have Akismet, it does seem to keep some spam comments out. I wonder how it does that!

use.... plugin called Akismet in Wordpress blog. It willl move all of spam comments to spam folder. More than that you can add captcha for comments. this will surely stop most of electronic comments.

Aniruddha Rege

I use blogger. So no Akismet! Blogger does catch some of the spam, but not all. I am reluctant to add the captcha code, as it turns off real commentors.

In wordpress, you have an option to remove, edit comments made by others. I think bloggers have got wrong info about backlinks. Most of the blogs have spam filters and if a blog or a site is marked as spam then they will have a hard time in doing anything.. like getting adsense approval or in the worst case.. their site may get blocked. Best is not to spam others and have a good spam filter in your blog.

Only spammers can answer this question, best. They are a nuisance to the community of dedicated bloggers and nothing more, someone needs to mirror them their reality. On the other side, Google Blogger looks like it's gotten fed up too. It has stopped filtering all spams of late. Undecided
