What exactly is Haiku Heights

Visit the haiku heights website and you will know. Every day they give a topic. You can write a haiku, post it on your blog and submit the link at haiku heights. Just like IndiVine. 

Do those bloggers who write Haikus follow the rules or do they simply write some short poem like things which I tried to do today. 

keep a watch on BA's WOW...i see a person posting supposed 'HAIKU' regularly that are a paragraph long...its strange the person calls it haiku

VP. visit Sfurti's blog. She regularly writes Haiku and poems. You will find good ones there.

Vijay - The basic thing to understand in a Haiku apart from the 17 syllables is the 'turn'. You must give a contrast in the end. Many writes today would write the haiku as a statement, which does not serve the purpose.

If I may, here is what I could write on the subject of rain for you.. in 5,7,5 structure.

O! new leafs in rain!

glittering with raindrops and dew;

will you feed insects?

"I taste it

It's not salty..

Its rain drops,

Cloud's tear drops !"

A "tryku" (a try for haiku)

razi...thats not haiku...haiku has only 3 line with 17 sylable

ND.. its simple..

Thanks all for your replies  Despite all your kind replies I still could not decipher what a Haiku is.  What are 5 7 5 syllables and how is it constructed.  

vi - 1 syllable ,  jay - 1 syllable

vijay - 2 syllable

prabhu - 2 syllable

vijay prabhu - 2+2=4 syllable

vijay prabhu sings ( 5 syllable )

vijay prabhu sings bad songs ( 7 syllable )

vijay bad singer ( 5 syllable )

actually the middle line seems 8 syllable

O! new leafs in rain!= Each word has one syllable. Hence 5 syllable

glittering with raindrops and dew;= Glittering has 3 syllable and raindrops has 2. Hence, 3+1+2+1+1=8

will you feed insects?= Insects has 2 syllabus. So it would be 5

So, I guess, this one is 5-8-5

Though true haiku stick to the 5-7-5 pattern, English haiku often circumvent this rule. So the main thing is: three lines, 17 syllables at the max.

Once you get the hang of it, they're really fun to write!

@Razi Ayyo, vendaaa! I express myself better in English than in Malayalam when it comes to written work. And I don't know the concept of syllables in Mal. Here's one of mine in English, though :)

Nice Sweety a very high quality haiku.  You may also note that though it is showing in one line here on Indi I received it correctly spaced in my mail.  Perhaps you did want to contact the Inditeam regarding this
