How about having a Indiblogger Best blog template award ?

It will help us go through various themes and styles bloggers use..

It will be a visual treat going through the nominations , check people's customization and reviewing it ..

and finally , it will be a good indiblogger initiative in addition to Indiblogger of the month based on the content ..

May be we can keep this once in three months or so ..

Invite thoughts and feedbacks on this subject from Rennie , Anwin and all Indiblogger users !

After all there is a saying " “Clothes and manners do not make the man; but, when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance.

Hmm... it's a good idea, but Shankar has a point... most bloggers don't customize their templates much...

Renie Ravin, what about different platforms which bloggers use?

Bloggers won't be rated on a single scale.

@ Shankar and Rennie.

Yes Shankar has a point that most of use pre made blog templates but ..

lets look at it in another view point.

Whom do we call a  best dressed man ?

A man who is best dressed , makes a good coordination of dresses and accessories according to his personality right ? He does not have to make his own dress , he buys it.

So is the case here.

A blogger uses blog templates available .

But the whole idea behind my award is :

1. How one chooses his right template that chooses his blog personality , content.

2. How he uses the blog accessories like widgets

3. How he presents himself with minimalistic design or jazzed up layout to suit his blog personality.

4. The color choises he uses ..

Good Idea, but judges would be having real difficult time idenfying the originality of the templates. For eg. the template which I used as to start from the scratch is now highly customized... so much so that, I can term it as my own!

@ Mr R

Let there be different awards for hosted & own-user-domain templates.

Does it makes any difference in having different awards for custom domain and default domain bloggers for their templates? You must elaborate.

Sanctity of the template is going to be the biggest hurdle in this kind of competition, no doubt! Some of my blogger buddies are real good techies too, on the other hand some are really good writers but aren't really good at technical skills... Does a best template competition implies, the best Programmer or the best web designer wins? This does not sound too well...

Mr.R, your clarifications helped... I can see how we can make this relevant by defining the criteria well... but how do we deal with thousands of nominations? Frown

ive also noticed that only a few sites are popular for templates and many templates are either blogger defaults or many people end up having a common template.

Here's my solution:

Let us try and take templates along with content into account while nominating indiblogger of the month. Although im not very clear how would we enforce that, but its merely a thought.
