How to establish as an ethical and credible Blogger ?

I was wondering many an experts have suggested that you should blog about breaking news, topical headlines and interesting subject matter to attract network of friends to subscribe your blog or be regular commentators on your blog.  Well for me the content of the blog whether it is musings, poetry, user experience, travelouge, fictional stuff, day to day experience which really matters at the end of the day.  Chasing numbers is a futile exercise, if one has 10 to 15 regular followers that is suffice to establish one's credibility. Some bloggers want to establish their credentials through shortcut methods, ultimately they end up as loosers, this is my personal opinion, maybe there are other methods like sharing knowledge on tech related issues which fetches more eyeballs.....guys share your ideas on the subject matter.

I don t need your advice, being in civil defence i am aware of my responsibilities and role in a forum, i am old enough to be your father, if you can insult and get away, so be it.

Okay guys, I am seeing a bit of heat here. @Umesh can you reply to the question I asked you on {Personality of Blogger} thread?

Flamer doesn't like being asked to stop flaming. Continues making assumptions about strangers. Predictable. Smile Ever heard the phrase "If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen?" Tongue out Ah well, I've fed the troll enough, don't you think? Innocent lol

Shall let mgt take care of this now.

Hemal, you have to check out my forum topic on loading profile photo to get to the gensis of my perception.  The thread " Uploading profile photo does it harm an individuals personality ? is no more active, if you have privy into having a peek into the censored topic than you will get a fair idea.  Further your own topic post on plagiarism had confirmed 5 people operating from one IP address.  That is suffice i believe.

At the end of the day all that matters is your blog's popularity i.e how many people WANT to connect with your blog. Numbers do matter but numbers that are exaggegarted through artificial means and numbers which are bought are pointless. They dont add any value.

Blogging is not merely about numbers, we are not chasing targets here dear Aditya.  Ultimately it is content and faithful followers which will take your to higher levels.  Rigging numbers can be undertaken in so many ways, but will it fetch you credibility ?

What I believe is, one can write about anything, but if that person, writes with authority, then people start reading you, and keep on visiting your blog. So authoritative writing is the keyword here.

authority needs conviction, conviction comes wid knowledge :) agree buddy?

i guess you are right, but authority does not have to be visible only in words. Its the frame that needs to make the picture beautiful.

+1 Hemal and Monica. Authority comes only with knowledge in the subject matter! and yes, authority need not be restricted to written words only... presentation to your readers actually adds more value to ur blog, than you might realize...

Yes authorative writing backed with facts and evidence does fetch lot of followers.  I agree with your viewpoint Sauvik.  thanks for your take

@Umesh facts or not, i think even if the author is bluffing, his writing makes a difference. Do you think DaVince Code by Dan Brown was not a success without any facts? It was, though a fair amount of research was done, but nothing is proveable. Fiction, as they say is not something which has facts, but still entices a reader deep into it.

Over a period of 5 years i have been experimenting and discovered the following :

1.  Focus on core competence of oneself :Marketing, Travel, Tech Tips, Legal Matters,Medico etc

2.  Blog with authority quoting personal and textual reference on the subject matter as Sauvik has suggested.

3.  Integrate you personality across all forums where you are present with your profile pic or Icon for people to identify and recognise.  I realised the folly of posting different pics of mine in different form, which was diluting my credibility.

4.  In case of mistake or wrong reference , it is better to apologise and carry out the corrections, particularly of historical facts, which i had to undertake recently when pointed out.

5.  Finally a network of circle or friends should be able to vouch for your credibility.

I think same rule applies for blog as for career. Starting off by saying I want huge readership whatever it takes is like saying I need lot of money now matter what I do in my career. Career should be based on interest and aptitude. Same with blog - you should like what you write and have some skill in what you write. However well tech blogs sell, you can't blog about it unless you have intrest in the topic and have something unique to bring to the table. Everyone should discover where their true intrest lies and where they have more knowledge than others and blog in that area. Then it is about packaging, thinking who would be the right audience for these kind of posts and marketing to them, probably posting link on suitable forums etc. You can't carpet bomb. You need to segment your market.

Buddy when you are comparing between profession and hobby, it is like comparing an famous icon say like Sachin with somebody who plays cricket as a hobby.  When you don t play or selected for professional team than you don t have the bucks to back you up for your performance.  Similarly in blogsphere unless you commercialise by marketing your product or service you don t earn anything.  Carpet bombing is done to weed out one's enemies Lolz
